1. Mitali Madhumita

She received this medal for her courageous act of shown, when there was an attack by terrorists in Kabul, Afghanistan on the Indian embassy.
She has also showed her courage during an operation conducted in Jammu-Kashmir and in North Eastern States of India. In her exceptional act of courage during the attack on Indian embassy by Kabul, Lt Col Mitali Madhumita, in spite of being unarmed, personally rescued injured army personnel & civilians from the debris and rushed to the hospital.

2. Punita Arora

Punita AroraPunita Arora has two firsts to her name. She is the first woman Vice Admiral of Indian Navy and the first woman Lieutenant General of Indian Armed Forces. Her family which was in Punjab, shifted to Uttar Pradesh, Saharanpur, after partition. Initially, she also worked for the Armed Forces Medical College as commandant. Here also, she was the first woman to be at this position and later she shifted to Navy from Army.

3. Priya Jhingan

Priya JhinganPriya Jhingan is the first Indian woman to join the Indian Army as cadet on 21st September 1992. She had graduated in law and always felt an inclination towards joining the army. To everyone's surprise, she wrote a letter directly to the Chief of the Army, requesting him to allow women to enter the armed forces. This resulted in the subsequent year the induction of 24 woman in the Indian army along with Priya Jhingan were inducted.


4. Padmavathy Bandopadhyay

Padmavathy BandopadhyayPadmavathy Bandopadhyay is considered one of the exemplary figures in the armed forces. She has many first to her name. A true inspiration and the powerhouse of courage and strength, Padmavathy is the first woman to have passed from a Defense Service Staff College. She became the first woman to be called as the Fellow of the Aerospace Medical Society and the first woman Air Marshal inducted in the Indian Air Force. In addition to that, she is the first woman to have conducted an experiment in the North Pole, regarding extreme cold acclimatization.
She proved that woman should not be considered secondary with her extraordinary work during the India-Pakistan war of 1971. For her service she was also awarded with the Vishisht Seva Medal.

5. Sophia Qureshi

Sophia QureshiSophia Qureshi is the first woman to have been given the charge to lead a 40-member contingent of army during an international military exercise. And, that's one of the cases of the valor of woman in the Indian Army that give us some real positive indications. On top of that, she was the only Indian woman commander from all the countries that participated in the military exercise. The participating countries were China¸ Russia, Japan¸ South Korea, and USA.

6. Harita Kaur Deol

Harita Kaur DeolAt the tender age of 22 she became the first woman to be inducted in the Indian Air Force to fly alone, without any co-pilot. Surprisingly, she created history by flying up to a height of 10,000 feet.




7. Ganeve Lalji

Ganeve LaljiIn the Indian Army Ganeve Lalji was the first woman to have been appointed as the aide-de-camp. This kind of honor or responsibility is given to only those officers who prove to have the agility & ability to stand courageously even in the times of hardships & challenges. Ganeve Lalji was also appointed in 2013 as the key aide to General Rajan Bakshi, the Army Commander, Lieutenant General and it was when she proved her worth.

8. Divya Ajith Kumar

And, she became the first woman to have received this coveted award by beating 244 fellow men & women in various physical and academic tests. And, later on during 2015 Republic day parade, she led the 154 officer's contingent (all-women). During the 2015 Republic Day, the chief guest was the then-US President Barrack Obama.


9. Deepika Misra
