Alexandrina Victoria or most known as Victoria was the Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain from June 201837 till she was dead. Also on 1st of May 1876 she took up the title of the Empress of India.

Introduction

Victoria was born to Prince Edward, Duke of Kent and Strathearn, the fourth son of King George III. Victoria had to be raised under her German-born mother, Princess Victoria of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld after the death of both the Duke of Kent and King George III in 1820. She had to take care of the throne at the very early age of 18 after her two of the elder brothers of her father died.

A Born Princess

She was born on 24th May 1819 in London, Kensington Palace! In her early age she lived a royal life and under the love of a very protective mother. She did not have much time to interact with other children and she would usually play with dolls when she was a young kid. Growing up she developed the love for painting, writing her diary and drawing.

Heir to the Crown

During the time of Victoria's birth she was supposed to be the fifth person in line to be seated to the throne but when it happened to be no children from her uncle's side then she became the heir of to the throne.

Becoming Queen

In 1837 when King William IV died, Victoria was pronounced as the Queen of United Kingdom at merely an age of eighteen. She was officially coroneted on 28th of June 1838 and when she became the heir she was determined to handle it all with all the dedication and gain back the faith of the people in the monarchy of the United Kingdom. The first thing she was that she paid off all the debt of her father and people started liking her from the very beginning.

She was not much adept at making good Governance yet she managed to make a very cordial relationship with the Prime Minister, Lord Melbourne. He would help her with good advice on various issues and on how to make out good Governance and that developed a great bonding between the two from the very start of her rein.

Her Marriage

Queen Victoria fell in love with the German prince who had come to visit the royal court on 10th of October 1839. And, after five days of when they were introduced to each other, they got engaged. They later had nine children together and Victoria's husband, Albert also became her confidant in the later years helping her in dealing with the politics of England.

The Era of Victorian

As long as Victoria ruled it was the period of peace and prosperity for Great Britain and at that time there was considerable expansion in industries and in the building of railroads. One of the great achievements of the time was the Great Exhibition of 1851. The "Crystal Palace" that was a huge building in London was built that was supposed to showcase a number of technological things from all around the world. Also, Prince Albert took part in the panning and everything and the project was believed to be a great success.

Death of her Husband, Albert

In the 1861 on 16th of December, Victoria' husband, Albert passed away after suffering from typhoid fever. After that Victoria went through a great stage of depression and she had distant herself from all type of politics. At that point in time many people also questioned about her ability to rule her state. But as time passed she gradually freed herself from depression and started taking interest in ruling the British Empire and its colonies. She particularly took interest in India and she was later entitled with the Empress of India.

Entitled as the Grandmother of Europe

All of her nine children got married to royal families spread all through the Europe! She had also been given the title of the grandmother of Europe and that is for the reason that many of the monarchs of Europe were believed to be her relatives. Edward, her first son was crowned as the king after Victoria's death and was married to the princess from Denmark. Her daughter named Victoria was married to the Germany's Emperor. And, here other children were married to royal families throughout in Europe. Victoria had in all 37 great grand children when she died on 22nd January 1901.

  • Her name was after Alexander I (the Emperor of Russia) and her mother.
  • Her favorite pet was her dog named Dash.
  • In Canada there is an island called Prince Edward Island and it has been named after her father.
  • While she was growing up she was called as "Drina".

When she was a thirteen year kid she was told that she would one day become queen and she said at that time that "I will be good". In the year 1887, the 50th anniversary of her reign was celebrated by the British, called as the Golden Jubilee. And later in 1897 they celebrated the Diamond Jubilee.
