Brief Introduction about Angela Markel


Angela Markel also known as Angela Dorothea Kasner and was born in 1954, 17th of July in the city of Hamburg Germany. She is a trained physicist and she entered into politics in the year 1989 with fall of the Berlin Wall. From there she rose to the position of chairwoman of the Christian Democratic Union party and later on she became the first woman chancellor and rose to one of the most sought after names of the European Union, after the national elections of 2005.

Angela Markel's Early Years


She was born to a Lutheran pastor and teacher father in 1954, 17th July in Germany who decided to move along with the family to East in order to complete his Theology studies. Angela Markel grew up in Berlin in a rural area and she in her later years completed her higher education in Physics from the University of Leipzig which earned for her a doctorate degree in the year 1978. After completing her education she started working as a chemist at the Central Institute for Physical Chemistry, Academy of Sciences and she worked there from 1978 to 1990.

The Eastern States of Germany were reunified with that of the main part of Germany in the year 1990, October. Soon after that Angela Markel fought the elections and got elected to the Bundestag for the constituency of Stralsund. After that was she was elected to the post of Minister for Women and Youth under Chancellor Helmut Kohl, later on he became Angela's mentor. After that she was promoted to the role of the minister for the Environment and Nuclear Safety in the year 19994, and it is when she played a significant role in the cabinet. And, that is when her career took a unique shape. Kohl, her mentor got defeated in the elections in the year 1998 and stepped out from the post and that is when Markel was given the responsibility to handle the Secretary-General of the CDU. That made her to become the first woman to sit at this position in the entire history. Later in the year 2000, she even got to receive greater fame when she became the first woman leader of the German party replacing Wolfgang Schäuble. And, the entire party leaders were in shock as it was the first time that a female was elected to this position in a male dominated space. She enjoyed a really significant position and she played an important role in bringing about various social and economic changes in Germany. Also, she advocated the changes in the labour law of Germany because she thought that it were those old laws that are posing hindrance in the way of creating a successful image of the nation.

Soon she became a loved leader among the citizens! In the year 2005, she stood in the national elections against Chancellor Gerhard Schröder of the Social Democrats (SPD). And, she defeated the incumbent chancellor, and she was declared as the first female chancellor of Germany.
And, she assumed the Chancellor's office in 2005, 22nd of November. During her tenure, she was dedicated towards building foreign relations and in that endeavour she also signed the Transatlantic Economic Council on 30 April 2007. Also, she signed an Indo-German pact for boosting the relationship between India and Germany.

Later on in the year 2009, she was again elected to the position for her second term. During her tenure, she had lead in all seven trade delegations to China since she came into power in 2005. In 2013, she again won the election for the third term and was later elected as the Chancellor on 17th December 2013.
